Eine App ist für den Oscar in der Kategorie „Bester Kurzfilm (Animation)” nominiert. “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” war vom Autor William Joyce ursprünglich nur als Buch geplant. Die Firma Moonbot-Studios (mitbegründet von Joyce) machten dann noch einen Kurzfilm und eine App für das iPad draus. Die Story dreht sich um lebendige Bücher, bei der Umsetzung für das Apple Tablet kam eine Mischung aus Spiel und E-Book heraus.
“We think that tablets are presenting a new narrative experience as big, as important, as television was, as books were,” meint Joyce. “They’ll have their own flavor. And discovering how to make that experience super-intensely different and emotionally involving — we’re just in the baby steps of that.”
Tolle Effekte brachten den „fliegenden Büchern” schon ein Reihe von Preisen, mit dem Oscar kämen noch $ 50.000 dazu.
