Maker Day: A Very Big Thank You!

Dear Guests of the first Maker Day at the Cologne Central Library,
You have all contributed to the great success of the Maker Day at the Cologne Central Library. The Maker movement in Germany and especially in the libraries is still in its infancy. Yet within the past year remarkable advancements have been made. Public libraries provide open spaces for new ideas, potential and do-it-yourself projects. They contact “prosumers”, trained consumers who themselves produce their own content. The Cologne Public Library is pleased to be among the pioneers.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, who honored us with his visit last Saturday. Mr. Schulz has agreed to work as an ambassador for German libraries in the context of an EU-wide project.
Ilona Kish, Program Director of Reading & Writing Foundation Brussels, aims to promote the relevance and importance of public libraries in Europe by motivating EU leaders to visit libraries and be personally convinced of their qualities. Walter Schulz, brother of Martin Schulz and Member of the Council of the City of Cologne was a most engaged guest of the event.
Our thanks also go to the participating educational institutions of Cologne for presenting their projects: SAE Institute (Creative Media Education), Akademie für Kommunikationsdesign, Ding-Fabrik – the FabLab, Repair Café Köln-Porz and Kaiserin-Augusta-Schule. Last but not least, I would especially like to thank all active makers, all guests and visitors and of course all employees of our library for their great dedication on this day and their contribution to its wonderful success.

Unser heutiger herzlicher Dank geht an:
SAE Institute, Creative Media Education
Akademie für Kommunikationsdesign
Repair Café Köln-Porz
Ding-Fabrik – das FabLab
Kaiserin-Augusta-Gymnasium
